Breathing Test Information for Patients
This breathing test information is for patients whose physicians have requistioned a pulmonary function test, a breathing test for asthma or a breathing test for COPD.
The good news about the breathing test
- The only thing you do is to breathe in and out of your mouth with nose clips on
- Single use disposable mouth filter and nose clips are used (no germs!)
- Testing does not hurt. NO needles, pain, or blood drawn. Just shoes off for height
- NO space capsule to sit in (no body box for people who are claustrophobic)
- Wheelchair and motorized scooter accessible
- Family members can be present with you while the test is being done

Breathing Test Precautions! Just a few
- For the ladies: no lip stick please
- Please remove any nose, lip or tongue jewelry, you may reattach after testing
- Any surgery 4 weeks prior to date of testing
- Please no chewing gum
- You may wish to visit the restroom before having your test done. It is located behind the elevators on the lower level of 4040 Finch.
- If English is the patient second language. Family or friend interpreter is welcome
- TMJ suffers please inform the technicians prior to starting the breathing test.
